Porcelain Tooth Veneers

Tooth Veneers are thin semi translucent porcelain restorations that are bonded to your teeth in order to change the shape, contour and colour of your front teeth.

They work well if you want to close gaps between teeth, improve the alignment of crooked teeth, repair chips and breaks or simply correct the colour if the teeth are permanently marked (or can’t be whitened).

Veneers are very thin so only a minimal amount of reduction of the enamel is needed during the procedure. Because they are made of porcelain the colour is stable and the veneer is very hard wearing and easy to keep clean, using regular oral hygiene at home. As with all dental restorations they will need to be looked after. To make sure they will look their best, have regular dental checkups and avoid habits that damage natural teeth like biting hard objects, nail biting and chewing pens etc.

What happens when I have my porcelain veneers?

You will need two treatment appointments, on the first one the teeth are prepared and an impression is taken. Your dentist will discuss the appearance and colour of the veneers and once you agree, instruct the technician at the dental laboratory where your veneers are custom made.

Your dentist will make you tooth coloured temporaries so you will still be able to smile! Often the temporary veneers are used to assess the new size and appearance so the new teeth can be made to your liking. On the second visit your dentist will permanently bond the veneers onto the natural tooth that will support them. They are very strong, so treat them like natural teeth!
