With personal appearance playing such a major part in our everyday lives, more and more people are paying attention to not only the health of their teeth, but also the colour!

We have seen a large increase in the numbers of patients looking to brighten the whites of their smile, and as a progressive practice we have taken on board the requests of these patients and are now pleased to be able to offer a range of different tooth whitening services to those patients that request them.

What causes tooth discolouration?

Smoking, drinking tea, coffee and red wine can yellow your teeth
Some medications can also cause the teeth to discolour
If the nerves and blood vessels inside your teeth are damaged due to decay or receiving a knock the tooth may become darker.
Tartar build-up, tooth decay and fillings can contribute to discolouration
Many people develop yellowish staining on their teeth simply due to age

Can I include teeth whitening as part of other treatment?

If you are having other restorative work carried out on your teeth, i.e implants and / or veneers then it is possible to have the rest of your teeth whitened to match. The whitening will typically be carried out prior to the other works as the crowns and veneers will be colour matched to your existing teeth from the outset, this is why the whitening is carried out first.

Will having my teeth whitened hurt?

Some patients report an increase in tooth sensitivity during and shortly after the treatment, but this is only temporary and will typically recede back to normal levels. If you find that you're suffering from high levels of extra sensitivity we can advise you on ways to overcome this until normal levels are once again resumed.

Will whitening work on my teeth?

There are variations from person to person how white a tooth can get. If you have yellow teeth, then tooth whitening will generally work well. However, if you have grey teeth or black crack lines from smoking then the whitening process may not be as effective and you may need to seek other forms of treatment to regain the smile you're looking for.
