DenturesOnly you need to know you are wearing a denture!

At the Wensleydale we offer all our patients the option of having private aesthetic dentures for the best appearance, comfort and fit, we offer a range of dentures so you can choose the right one for you.

We make private dentures using the Schottlander Enigma and Natura systems. For more demanding situations where you want the best looking teeth we use the Enigma denture, this being the more natural looking, harder wearing option.  The Enigma denture, is made with a High Impact Acrylic denture base material and uses the very life like Enigma range of denture teeth to get very natural appearance and yet excellent physical properties. This denture is fully contoured and has the gumwork stained and coloured by the dental laboratory to look like real gum. The Enigma denture is supplied with a 7 year guarantee against excessive wear and tooth breakages.

As a cost effective option The Natura is our basic private denture. The Natura denture is made with High Impact Acrylic and can be supplied contoured and fully gum stained. The Natura teeth are a very high quality denture tooth and provide a very natural look. They also come with a 5 Year guarantee.

Both Enigma and Natura teeth can be supplied with a metal cobalt chromium framework, designed for your specific situation, typically for a partial denture.

We also offer Valplast flexible partial dentures. This is a premium flexible denture that is ideal for partial dentures, small side plates or as a more comfortable option than traditional acrylic. Lightweight and practically invisible these dentures are wonderfully comfortable to wear due to the flexibility of the material and the lack of metal clasps.

If you need a comfortable very hard wearing small partial denture ask your dentist about Valplast!
All our dentures are made in the Huntingdon Dental Laboratory, which is on site. This allows us to have great communication with the lab to make private cosmetic dentures and makes it easier for patients to have emergency repairs and relines.

The denture teeth used at The Wensleydale Dental practice for private dentures is made by Schottlander. In 2004 Schottlander were honored to receive the Queen’s Award for the Enigma and Natura teeth and denture systems. The official citation from the Queens Awards Office read:

Queens Award“The award to Davis Schottlander & Davis Ltd recognises this company’s success in continuously improving a range of teeth and dentures. The company has created Enigma and Natura, two ranges of teeth and dentures that not only look more natural but also function better. This has been achieved by using advanced acrylic materials, a wider range of colours and better mechanical design, to give an improved “bite”. Options available now take account of the different characteristics of ethnic groups. Continuous innovations in design and professional marketing have enabled this award winner to achieve a substantial share of the market and considerable commercial success whilst providing customers with better looking and performing dentures”.

How is my denture made?

A denture will typically take at least 4-5 visits at your dentist. On the first consultation the dentist will discuss with you the different types of dentures that will be suitable, and you will together look at shape and type of teeth, colour and any special requests you may have. It is very helpful if you can bring in and old photograph of your original teeth if you want to recreate the same smile.

Valplast DentureThe dentist will take impressions of your teeth and then the dental laboratory will make a first wax denture that the dentist will adapt to the right shape and size,  and usually further impressions are taken.  The laboratory will set the teeth up in a wax base to the dentists specification and this will then be tried in. At this stage the dentist will ask you to be very critical and let us know if there is anything you want to adjust in the appearance of the teeth. The technicians then complete the dentures in the dental laboratory  and make all the individual gumstaining and polishing.

Your dentist will fit your new dentures and verify fit and appearance and ensure your occlusion, bite, is perfect. All teeth will need some time to bed in, especially if you haven’t had a denture before. You normally come back once or twice after the fit for follow ups and final adjustments

How do I care for my new dentures?

Your dentures are custom made and need to be looked after, just like you need to look after natural teeth.  The materials used in your new denture are very hard wearing but it is best to have a good routine for  keeping dentures comfortable and looking their best.

Over time scale and stains will build up so always brush your denture with a stiff denture brush.  Avoid using normal toothpaste on the denture since this is too abrasive, instead use a professional denture cleaning paste and cleaning tablets to soak the denture. Do not leave dentures dry unless advised to do so by your dentist.

In order to look for signs of changes in the soft tissues and to ensure good fit and bite see your dentist at least annually even if you are wearing a full denture.
